WOMEN'S STATE AM TODAY
The 82nd annual Women's Kentucky State Amateur gets underway today in Elizabethtown. The field of 97 will include seven past champions, a number of the state's top college golfers and a whopping 50 players with handicaps under 10. Play will begin tomorrow with a qualifying round at Elizabethtown Country Club. The golfers then will be paired into flights for match play, with the low 31 scorers joining defending champion Jessica Grace in the championship flight. Players in the field include several from Murray State, including head coach Velvet Milkman.

KEARSE GETS DUI
Titans defensive end Jevon Kearse has been arrested for DUI. Metro Nashville police said Kearse was seen speeding and swerving several times while travelling west on West End Avenue. The officer who pulled the Titans over said Kearse exhibited slurred speach, red eyes, and smelled of alcohol. He reportedly refused a breath test. Officials said the incident was Kearse's first offense. Kearse signed a two-year deal worth $6 million with the Titans this past March, returning to the team that drafted him after a four year stint in Philadelphia.

PACKERS PUT HARPER ON WAIVERS
The Green Bay Packers have placed wide receiver Rod Harper on waivers. Harper was signed as an undrafted rookie free agent out of Murray State this offseason. By releasing Harper, who participated in the team's minicamp this week, the Packers reduced their roster to 87 players of which 77 are under contract. The NFL allows its teams a limit of 80 players under contract.

SAWX EDGE CARDS
Kevin Youkilis clubbed a two-run, walk-off homer in the bottom of the 13th inning to lift the Red Sox to a 5-3 win over the Cardinals at Fenway Park.  Youkilis also hit a solo shot in the seventh, and Mike Lowell and Julio Lugo each plated a run for Boston, which had dropped the first two games in the three-game interleague set.  Javier Lopez recorded two outs in relief to improve to 2-and-0 with the win.  Adam Kennedy tied the game in the ninth inning for St. Louis with a pinch-hit, RBI double off Jonathan Papelbon.  Brian Barton and Ryan Ludwick each drove in a run for the Cards in defeat.  Mike Parisi was charged with the loss.

Carlos  Beltran clubbed  a two-run  home  run and  Mike Pelfrey  tossed 5  2/3
shutout innings, as the New York Mets topped the Colorado Rockies, 3-1, in the
rubber  match  of their three-game  set at  Coors Field. Pelfrey (4-6) allowed
just  three  hits and  struck out five,  but issued five  walks and was lifted
after  98 pitches. David  Wright knocked in a run and scored a run, while Jose
Reyes  tripled and scored for the Mets, who have won three of their last four.
The  Mets improved to 3-2 under interim manager Jerry Manuel, who replaced the
fired  Willie Randolph on Tuesday. Yorvit Torrealba's solo homer accounted for
the  offense for  the Rockies, who fell  for just the third time in their last
nine  games. Greg Reynolds  (2-5) allowed all three runs on six his over seven
innings and dropped the decision.

The opening round of Wimbledon is underway from the All England Club and Roger
Federer has begun his  quest to become the  first man in the  Open era (1968)
to win the title six straight times. The top-seeded Swiss superstar is coming
off another title  at  the Wimbledon  tuneup in Halle  and has won  59
straight matches on grass  courts.  He is on Centre Court facing off with
Slovakia's Dominik  Hrbaty.  In other men's  action, Australian Open champ
Novak Djokovic will  play Germany's Michael Berrer and 2002 Wimbledon champion
Lleyton Hewitt of  Australia --  the last man not  named Federer to capture
the title -- will face Robin Haase of the Netherlands.

Two-time   women's  champion  Serena  Williams  and  top-seeded  Ana  Ivanovic
highlight  the  ladies schedule.  Williams, back-to-back  champion in 2002 and
'03,  is seeded  sixth  this year  and  will take  on  Estonia's Kaia  Kanepi.
Ivanovic,  who ascended to the top of the women's rankings after capturing her
first Grand Slam title at the French Open, will meet Paraguay's Rossana De los
Rios.  Other top  women on the schedule include fourth-seeded Russian Svetlana
Kuznetsova,  eighth-seeded Anna  Chakvetadze of Russia and last year's runner-
up, 11th-seeded Frenchwoman Marion Bartoli.

                                === OLYMPICS ===

The United States men's Olympic basketball team will be announced on Monday. A
total  of 12  players will don the  red, white and blue uniform for the Summer
Games  in  Beijing, and  reports last week  indicated that Cleveland superstar
LeBron  James  and Miami Heat star  Dwyane Wade will headline the roster. Both
were  a part  of the  2004 squad  that won  a bronze  medal in  Athens. Others
already  reported to  be on  this year's  team include  Milwaukee sharpshooter
Michael  Redd  and point  guards Chris Paul  of New Orleans  and Jason Kidd of
Dallas.

                            === COLLEGE BASEBALL ===

Tommy Mendonca had three hits and drove in four runs, as Fresno State advanced
to  the  College World  Series championship  series with a  6-1 win over North
Carolina  at Rosenblatt  Stadium. The  Tar  Heels, the  No. 2  ranked team  in
the  nation,  had faced two  straight elimination  games. Friday they beat LSU
on  a  ninth-inning grand  slam, and  on Saturday,  North Carolina beat Fresno
State  thanks to an eighth-inning homer from Chad Flack to force Sunday's tie-
breaking  game.  But there  were  no  dramatics  this  time around  for  North
Carolina,  as Fresno  State  -- the  first team  seeded  fourth regionally  to
ever  reach the  College World  Series --  continued its  unlikely run  in its
fourth   CWS  appearance.   The  Bulldogs  advanced  to  meet  Georgia,  which
advanced  to the  best-of-three  matchup  with a  10-8  win  over Stanford  on
Saturday.  The first  game of that series  will take place on Monday at 7 p.m.
(et).   North  Carolina  had  advanced  to  the  CWS  championship  series  in
each  of the past two seasons, but ended its season with a 54-14 record.

Stewart  Cink earned his fifth career PGA Tour victory with a one-shot triumph
at the Travelers Championship in Connecticut. Cink, who notched his first-ever
PGA  Tour win at  this event when it was known as the Greater Hartford Open in
1997, parred the final hole to wrap up a three-under-par 67 in the final round
at  the  TPC of River  Highlands, finishing with  a four-day total of 18-under
262.  He hadn't  won a PGA Tour  title since the WGC-NEC Invitational in 2004.
Tommy  Armour III and defending champion Hunter Mahan tied for second place at
17-under par, while Heath Slocum was next at minus-16.

                              === AUTO RACING ===

Kyle Busch and the Joe Gibbs Racing pit crew made the right moves at the right
times  and he captured Sunday afternoon's Toyota Save Mart 350 at the Infineon
Raceway. The No.18 M&M's Toyota crossed the finish line 1.716 seconds ahead of
David  Gilliland. The victory was Busch's fifth of the season and ninth of his
Sprint  Cup career. Twice  Busch made pit stops just before a caution flag and
it  set  him up with the  lead on the final  run to the checkered flag. He was
never  really  challenged over the final  40 laps and  led a total of 78 laps.
Kasey Kahne, winner of three of the last five races and Friday's pole, brought
the  field  to the  green flag  for 110 laps  of road-course  fun. He led them
through  the  first laps,  but it was  Robby Gordon that  was showing the most
speed.  The No.7  Dodge started eighth but by  the end of the third lap he was
already  past road-course ace Jeff Gordon and into fourth place. Robby Gordon,
who  only  knows one way  to drive  - at 110-percent,  took third place from a
fading Kahne on lap eight.
